EXERCISES IN THE TRAINING GROUND “ZAR”

On September 15-18, at the training center “Zar” military exercises of one of the infantry battalions (commander – Colonel Vasak Avetisyan) of MoD peacekeeping brigade were held within the NATO “Partnership for Peace” program. According to the specific requirements of NATO, the unit’s combat training, as well as equipment, weapons and other means of the rear have been tested.

At the appointed time, the unit left the place of dislocation and headed to the conditional zone of action of peacekeeping actions. The next day, according to the script, according to intelligence information it turned out that in one of the nearby settlements there is ammunition depot of terrorists. It was decided to hold a surprise offensive. In the counter actions helicopters of the AF air forces were involved.

In order to control the military exercises and become familiar with the work done, on September 17th training center “Zar” was visited by Minister of Defense Seyran Ohanyan, Chief of General Staff, Colonel-General Youri Khachaturov and the deputy chief of General Staff, Lieutenant General Movses Hakobyan.

On the last day of the exercise the action of attacking of the peacekeeping forces at the base of terrorists’ training has been played. It should be noted that conducted in difficult mountainous terrain combat action again showed a high degree of cooperation and the harmonization of military actions of the battalion servicemen that has not passed unnoticed by international observers.
