OFFICIAL STATEMENT OF THE RA DEFENSE MINISTRY, 2ND OF APRIL, 2016

The Defense Ministry of the Republic of Armenia officially confirms the information about the active military offensive undertaken by Azerbaijan along the Line of Contact through the night of April 1 to April 2.

During the offensive, the adversary used tanks, artillery and air force and tried to advance into the depth of the NKR Defense army and seize tactical positions.

At this moment, as a result of the active military actions of NKR Defense Army units, the adversary has been thrown back along the Line of Contact suffering casualties. The military activities continue.

RA Ministry of Defense strictly condemns the unprecedented aggressive and irresponsible decision of the Azerbaijani authorities to launch military operations and officially announces that the continuation thereof might result in unpredictable consequences for the Azerbaijani side.

The Azerbaijani authorities bear the full responsibility for such an unprecedented tension along the line of contact between Azerbaijan and Karabakh.

The Armenian Ministry of Defense draws the attention of the international community, first and foremost, that of OSCE Minsk group Co-chairs to the current situation and expects immediate and targeted intervention to keep the situation under control and avoid further large-scale military operations.
