WE WON THE ENEMY

On January 27 Defense Minister Seyran Ohanyan summed up the 2014 army year. Besides journalists, military attaches of foreign diplomatic missions, high-ranking militarymen, guests were present on the press-conference.

As expected, the Minister highlighted the Armenian-Azerbaijani relations, noting that the systematic violation of the ceasefire, the organization of sabotage, Armenophobia grafting his own people and vile falsification of obvious facts from the Azerbaijani side is a destabilizing factor in the safety of the South Caucasus and in the region.

According to the Armenian Defense Minister Seyran Ohanyan, the Armenian Armed Forces, thanks to initiative and the adoption of new approaches, were able not only to protect the frontiers of the country, but also conform to the concept of the Army of the 21st century.

Azerbaijan continues the policy of militarization, rooting in its society hatred towards Armenians and continuing policy of denial in the negotiation process. By increasing tension, Azerbaijan pursues both domestic and foreign political goals, Seyran Ohanyan said. “The foreign political goal is to influence the negotiation process, and in that respect, the tension repeatedly reflects that practice,” he said.

The enemy in the last year and in January this year carries subversive sniper war, their actions are aimed at probing the Armenian forces and aggravation of the situation. However, at the slightest success Azerbaijan would have moved to serious action. They have not succeeded, they were stopped by the Armenian soldier. In 2014, the Armenian armed forces were victorious on all fronts, unfortunately, we had victims.

Seyran Ohanyan said that Azerbaijan held all year round in an unprecedented voltage the borders of Armenia and Nagorno-Karabakh Republic, trying to reach political concessions. «Seeing that it does not reach success, Azerbaijan began this year with more arrogance and audacity, but again failed. Armenian soldiers defend their homeland, they are honest patriots. We’ve not lost, we have found our true heroes», – said the Minister.

According to Seyran Ohanian, the enemy conducts an information war, advancing their propaganda on all platforms. “This is a serious threat to stability and security in the region. Tactics of the Defense Ministry of last year was based on the development of the defense system and military power of the Armed Forces, as well as the integration and development of collective security mechanisms. During the year, many achievements have been reached, indicators have been introduced, according to them the army did not lag behind of the Army of the 21st century. The level of military training, weapons and trainings is very high. These all are long-term processes, the results still will show themselves. Image of uncouth commander is no more relevant and is forced out of the mentality of the Armenian army», – Said Seyran Ohanyan.

In the second part of the meeting the presentation of the next three volumes of the series “Armenian war and martial arts» was held. Author and editor of the project is the director of the Museum-Institute of Armenian Genocide Hayk Demoyan.
