MEDALS TO VETERANS
On December 15, 2011 a group of 2nd World War veterans was awarded with medals “70th Anniversary of Moscow Battle” (December 5, 1941 – April 20, 1942). The medals were presented by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Russian Federation in Armenia Vyacheslav Kovalenko. He mentioned that Armenian Army’s feat of arms in Artsakh was the continuation of the present veterans’ courage.
In his turn RA Defense Minister Seyran Ohanyan said: “The Armenian nation can be proud. In Moscow Battle many Armenians participated – generals, thousands of officers and soldiers, e.g. generals Ivan Baghramyan (afterwards – USSR Marshal), Michael Barseghov, colonels Sargis Martirosyan, Gagik Martirosyan, Nikolay Avanesyan, Ivan Vikilov and many others”. The Minister reminded that the defense of Moscow sky was headed by Major General, afterwards – Aviation Marshal Armenak Khanperyants (Sergey Khudyakov).
In the end of the ceremony those present were treated with soldiers’ rations.
