On 20th September in the Yerevan State University a conference on “National Security in the Context of Information Security” was held. The conference was organized by YSU Armenology Studies Institute and “ArmSEC Science-Educational Centre” NGO with the active participation of the RA Ministry of Defense.
This year 150-th anniversary of great military figure of the first Armenian republic, Lieutenant General Movses Silikyan is being celebrated. On this occasion a governmental commission has been set up headed by Defense Minister S.Ohanyan. According to the functions’ plan one of the departments of the Military Institute is named after M.Silikyan. That function was held on September 2.
During the function Common Subjects and Languages Department Deputy Head Colonel M.Khachatryan presented M.Silikyan’s history of glory and tragedy.
On August 14 in the resort zone “Blue Sevan” of Lake Sevan a memorial stone was opened dedicated to the joint swimming of Army Commander (Sparapet) Vazgen Sargsyan and RF General Aleksey Tretyakov.
On August 14, 1997 Sparapet and Russian General from the point of the memorial stone swam till the bank of the Sevan Peninsula.
Citizens of the Republic of Armenia return from abroad to serve in the RA Armed Forces.
Last year 225 young men returned and called up for the military service. 118 of them – from the Russian Federation, 44 – from other countries.
When I reached Sassoun I was very excited… I couldn’t find the village which my grandma created in my childhood memories. I returned and brought a handful of soil and water from Sima spring. I took them to my grandfathers’ grave.
We should give a new assessment to our past. We must understand – what and when we lost. We must understand the phenomenon of our victories. And we must walk on the path of victory.
Two years is not a long time in person’s life, however it is a whole epoch for a soldier. His life is divided into two parts – before army or after army. Really, two years is not a long time for a person, and 20 years – for armed forces. But when I mentally go back and try to remember, compare what I have seen from the conscription till discharge, progress of our armed forces becomes evident for me.
More than 15 years ago when our state was just rising, I was always thinking – “Let my sufferings create secure future for my only son”.
That time I was sure that my country will really become the most developed in the region. And today, after 20 years, only now I understand what a romantic was I and didn’t have any imagination about the complicated route of state formation.
Years pass quickly, and today my son serves in the victorious Armenian army which will become more powerful.
