On January 24th RA Defense Minister Seyran Ohanyan visited the European Regional Academy, met with the students and professors-teachers staff. In his speech the Minister said: “The military-patriotic upbringing of youth is part of the military potential of any state together with the economic and military power.
Fatal outcome incidents in the national army decreased for 33,3% in 2011 compared to 2010. In figures it is 36 incidents in 2011 vs 54 in 2010. RA Judge Advocate Gevorg Kostanyan informed about this during the joint press-conference with Major General Armen Haroutyunyan, Head of RA MOD Investigating Service.
On January 16th with the RA Defense Ministry support and on the initiative of the Yerevan State University’s «Young YSU-its Union» series of functions started dedicated to the 20th anniversary of the Armenian Army. The slogan of the functions is: «We are the Army!»
On December 15, 2011 a group of 2nd World War veterans was awarded with medals “70th Anniversary of Moscow Battle” (December 5, 1941 – April 20, 1942). The medals were presented by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Russian Federation in Armenia Vyacheslav Kovalenko. He mentioned that Armenian Army’s feat of arms in Artsakh was the continuation of the present veterans’ courage.
In mid December in Matenadaran (Ancient Manuscripts Institute) new building’s conference-hall a conference on “The problems of new generation’s military-patriotic upbringing and ways to achieve it” was held. Ministers of defense, science and education, sports and youth, extreme situations as well as the head of RA Police took part in the Conference. Representatives of those offices presented reports. The results of works in this sphere during 2011 were discussed.
As for December 9th, the Armavir Military Registration Office has fulfilled the conscription plan for 70%. This was told by Armavir military commander Colonel Gagik Karapetyan to the “Hay Zinvor” correspondent. He expressed his assurance that the plan would be fulfilled and even overfulfilled. “Why you are so sure, you know that this is the generation of 1993 war year?”, – asked the correspondent.
On December 7th, the day of 55th anniversary of nurse Karineh Gevorgyan, participant of Artsakh liberation war against Azeri occupants, knight of 2nd level Battle Cross (posthumously), the students of Military-Medical Faculty, Yerevan State Medical University after M.Heratsi, Karineh’s comrades-in-arms, her family members visited her grave in Yerablour Pantheon (Three Hills) and put flowers on it grave.
