9th of May has another name – Shoushi liberation day. 70 years ago the Azeris illegally took away the Armenian lands and wanted to possess them forever turning out the Armenians from Artsakh. However the proud Artsakh Armenian rose to become the master of his faith.
The first days of May Azeri mass media yelled with big enthusiasm about the record sum of the Armed Forces Support Fund – 25mln Azeri Manats ($32mln). In reality the information on Funds activities spread by the Azerbaijan Defense Ministry only limits with the publications about the collected funds. Since its foundation – August 17, 2002, till now there is no any information about the purposes of the Fund.
My father was one of the millions of people, tens of thousands Armenians who forged the victory… Each year I put flowers on his grave. However, the last 15 years being in foreign land I have no possibility to fulfill my filial duty. I wrote a few lines in my father’s memory – Virab Haroutyunyan, who was at War for 5 years and returned with victory.
The key of Artsakh’s liberation was Shoushi and we had to obtain that key. If we act according to war regulations, for Shoushi liberation 300 pieces of ordnance were needed, but what we had we could count on our fingers…
In Shoushi we gained not only a military victory, Shoushi was the culmination of victories of the Armenian Soldier’s spirit. Shoushi destroyed the spin of the Azeris.
National army’s engineering sub-units were formed during the Artsakh War. From those days till now they have done a huge work in defending the borders of our country, regulating more secure connection between the rear and the front line.
Preparing for the arm’s jubilee, the regiment’s sub-units under the command of Colonel Ara Haroutyunyan at the same time are keen to prepare worthly for the General Military Inspection’s check-up which is intended for Autumn.
On March 2, 1943 Ashot S.Karyan joined the army to fight in the war. He was not even 17. After the driving courses in 1944 he participates in the fights for the liberation of Right-bank Ukraine. Afterwards he was shifted to the East, regiment № 46. After the victory over Japan with regiment № 92 with peaceful mission he went to Mongolia, and was demobilized only on May 18, 1948. During 5,5 years of service he was awarded with medals.
Time inexorably moves forward bringing us nearer to the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. And though today we can count the witnesses of this horrible crime yet on our fingers however we do not give up our faith for the Great Justice. And as the defender of our creative mind and constructive labour, security of our people and state we have appointed our Army and the Armenian Soldier. And the flags of our nation’s honesty will be raised higher on which our fathers with the light of their spirit have written: “Learn wisdom and admonitions…”.
We have understood yet before that book means thought, knowledge, progress, development, and the sword means will, resolution and strength, i.e. secure Present and Future.
