On February 4, ARM Minister of Defenсe received CSTO Secretary General Nikolay Bordyuzha and CSTO Chief of Joint Staff Alexander Studenikin.
During the meeting which was also attended by Chief of General Staff of the Armenian Armed Forces Colonel-General Yuri Khachaturov and First Deputy Defenсe Minister David Tonoyan issues related to current and prospective development of the CSTO military element were discussed.
From January 13 to February, the peacekeeping unit of the Armenian Armed Forces consisting of 75 servicemen participated in the regular multinational pre-deployment exercises at the training center of the US Armed Forces in Germany in the scope of the KFOR mission.
On January 29 Defense Minister Seyran Ohanyan hosted newly-appointed Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Italy to Armenia, His Excellency Mr. Giovanni Ricciulli and newly appointed Military Attache, Major-General Giovanni Armentani.
A delegation headed by Mr. Mikheil Darchiashvili, Deputy Minister of Defense of Georgia was visiting Armenia form January 28 to 29.
During the visit the delegation participated in ceremonies celebrating the 22nd anniversary of the Armenian Armed Forces Formation and was hosted by Defense Minister S. Ohanyan and 1st Deputy Minister of Defense D. Tonoyan. At the meetings parties discussed possibilities to expand the cooperation between the two defense agencies and prospects of cooperation in multilateral format.
The January 2014 marks the 24th anniversary of the massacres of Armenians in Baku. These tragic events were organized by the Azerbaijani Popular Front with the criminal connivance of the Azerbaijan SSR and USSR leadership. In the capital city of Azerbaijan hundreds of Armenians were killed by extremely brutal methods. They were doused with petrol and to the applause of the fanatic mob publicly burnt alive in the streets of Baku, defenseless children, women and elderly people were thrown from the upper floors of houses with the seizure of their apartments and property etc. The Armenian community of Baku, by 1988 numbering around 300 thousand people and playing a prominent role in Azerbaijan’s economic and cultural life, ceased to exist, its surviving members lost everything and became refugees. Apart from Armenians, there were Russians, Ukrainians, Jews, as well as Azerbaijanis having dared to save some Armenians who suffered from the Azerbaijani brutalized thugs.
November 10 celebrates World Youth Day and symbolises a day of solidarity and consolidation. On this occasion, a ceremonial event was organised on 9 November at the administrative building of the Ministry of Defence.
The event was attended by Minister of Defence of the Republic of Armenia Seyran Ohanyan, Deputy Ministers of Defence and Chiefs of General Staff of the Armenian Armed Forces, Heads of departments of the Ministry of Defence, the Armed Forces and General Staff of AR, high-ranking officers, representatives of higher education institutions and youth and civil society organizations, as well as cadets and officers from military educational institutions, Diaspora youth.
