Before the Great Patriotic War in Samshvilde there were already 2000 residents. For 4 years of war 200 people were recruited from the village, 107 from them did not return from the war.

On May 9, 1945 the Soviet people hoisted the flag of victory in the heart of Germany – Berlin. At that time the Soviet Union was a great power. All peoples had equal rights and their role in achieving victory was evaluated. That time people were not valued on a national basis but on their merits.
Each of us is the heir to the sad and painful pages of our history, and Lebanon has its share of these pages.
Many centuries ago, the Armenian King Tigran conquered Lebanon, but after centuries, the people of that great king set foot on this soil as a migrant, survivor of torture and persecution. However, they never asked for alms and with their work rose to their feet, became loved and respected by the local population. Thousands of orphans, too, have found shelter in this land, in Dzhibile in an orphanage “Bird’s Nest” of Danish missionary Maria Yakubson, in other orphanages.
94-year-old grandfather Khachatur is from the village Ouyts of Syunik region. From their village 301 men participated in the Great Patriotic War, 157 didn’t return.
– On January 3, 1943 the offensive began. We liberated Rostov, Odessa, Kaliningrad, reached the borders of Romania. I was in Czechoslovakia, Bulgaria, Vienna, – tells grandfather Khachatur.
Russian media reported that the May 9 parade of the 70th anniversary of Victory in Vladivostok took Admiral Sergey Avagyants.
Sergey Hovsep Avagyants was born on April 6, 1957 in Yerevan, in the family of an officer of Naval Forces of the USSR. He graduated from the Black Sea Higher Naval School after P.Nakhimov, then studied at the Naval Academy after Admiral N.Kuznetsov and the Military Academy of the General Staff of the Russian Federation.
