The film stars two generations of artists: Rudolf Ghevondyan, Sargis Grigoryan, Armen Soghoyan, Ashot Ter-Matevosyan, Rosie Avetisova etc.
When I returned from the army, it was 1988. The movement for the liberation of Artsakh just began. I was very interested in what happens. In all this there was something fantastic, was a powerful energy. My classmate had a camera. And I started to shoot. It was very interesting: like you’re in a crowd, but at the same time you look to everything from aside. I thought: “Maybe now something I do not understand, but after 10 years maybe I’ll understand.” Then I started to send these tapes to Moscow, America, Germany, France, so many would know what is going on here, I began to collaborate with CBS News and the BBC as an independent journalist. This is how was my entrance into the documentary.
The book of well-known English writer Noel Barber “Lords of the golden-horn” is a historical work and was published in 1973. The plot of the book includes the reign of Sultan Suleyman to the 1920s, up to Kemal Ataturk and contains information about the massacres of Armenians in 1894-96 during the period of Sultan Hamid, the Big Armenian Genocide. These materials, in author’s opinion, prove that the Armenian Genocide was premeditated and planned.
The book was recently translated into Armenian by Harutyun Yeghnazaryan from Iran and into the Persian – in 1985. The presentation of the Armenian translation took place on August 10, during the meeting of the Elders’ Union of Armenian cultural organization “Ararat” of Tehran. Sponsors of the book are Ani and Armen Manukyan.
